An engine out, on the floor, and being put back together. Not every workshop still takes this sort of work on.

Not sure what is wrong

Ring the workshop and describe the noise, the smell or the light on the dash. It is usually enough for us to tell you whether it can wait until next week or whether you should stop driving it.

What we take on

Quality assured mechanical repairs and servicing. That is the whole job description, and it covers a lot of ground on the North West Coast, from a log book service on a nearly new ute to an engine that needs pulling apart.

Servicing

Routine servicing for everyday cars, utes and four wheel drives, done properly and handed back clean.

Log book servicing

Your new car warranty stays intact. You do not have to go back to the dealership to keep it that way.

Vehicle inspections

Inspections carried out at the workshop, with the findings explained to you rather than handed over as a list of codes.

Engine work

Engines out, stripped, pressed and rebuilt on the bench. The heavy jobs other shops send elsewhere.

Breakdowns and repairs

Something has let go and you need it looked at today. We fit people in where we can, locals and travellers both.

Parts

Parts supplied as well as fitted, so a job does not stall waiting on somebody else's counter.

Brook and Shaun could not have been more helpful. They were professional, friendly and very well priced.

Inside the shed

Two bays on Don Road with twin hoists, a Snap-on tool wall and a TACC accredited sign on the front. Everything from a work ute with a bullbar to a late model European goes through the same doors.

The Charlesworth Mechanical roadside sign outside the workshop

You will know the sign

Blue and white, out the front on Don Road. If you have driven between Devonport and Don you have gone past it. Behind it is a working shed rather than a showroom, which is rather the point.

Who you'll be dealing with

A small crew, which is why people keep naming them in reviews. Shaun, Brook and Mitch get mentioned by name again and again, usually alongside the words helpful, professional and well priced.

Twenty two years in the trade sits behind the work. What that buys you is not a bigger workshop, it is someone who has seen the fault before and does not need to guess at your expense.

What is on the wall

  • TACC accredited, the Tasmanian Automobile Chamber of Commerce mark
  • Penrite oils, dispensed in the workshop
  • Snap-on tooling and benches
  • Twin two post hoists across two bays
  • Engine crane and press for the bigger jobs

What people say afterwards

Every one of these is a Google review, left by a real customer, quoted exactly as it was written.

The team at Charlesworth Mechanical were willing and able to assist me at short notice when my alternator failed while travelling. Their prompt and courteous service was brilliant and got me back on the road in no time and at a very reasonable price. Thank you very much. I highly recommend your services to all motorists.

That's A very great choice for inspection here! Actually I don't know their names but they are all very friendly and professional. I'm so moved cause they waited for me to get my key and documents when I off work. That makes me like Tasmania more:)

If like me you are unsure where to take your vehicle I can thoroughly recommend Charlesworth Mechanical. We are currently full time traveller's and finding someone you can trust can be very difficult. Brook and Shaun could not have been more helpful. They were professional, friendly and very well priced. If I ever come back to Tasmania they would be my first choice.

Highly recommend, a solid small business doing great work. We had an issue with our ute while travelling and they fit us in, and got us sorted easily.

Keep the number handy

Plenty of the cards we hand out end up on a dashboard or in a glovebox, which is exactly where a mechanic's number wants to be. Save it in your phone while you think of it.
